Maine’s ‘Merci’ Car at The Lincoln Home

Event has passed

France sends 49 boxcars full of gifts to the US!

That was a headline in February of 1949 around the country .  The French citizens, to show gratitude to Americans for their help during two World Wars filled the boxcars with personal gifts to be distributed to all 48 states as well as one for the District of Colombia to share with what was then the territory of Hawaii.

Please join us at The Lincoln Home as Kate McBrien, curator of Historic Collections at the Maine State Museum shares the gifts that Maine received and also the legacy of the “Merci Train” history.
