Edgecomb author Van Reid will appear at the Wiscasset Public Library, at 7 pm on Wednesday, September 24.

Three sides of Van Reid's family have been living on the coast of Maine since the mid-eighteenth century. The fourth side came from Norway 900 years after the Vikings. He comes from a long line of story-tellers and was filled as a youngster with family tales of sailors, farmers, and small town life in days gone by. He wanted to be a writer since the fifth grade and found his dream fulfilled when his comic historical novel “Cordelia Underwood, or the Marvelous Beginnings of the Moosepath League”  went from serialization in a local weekly to being published by Viking Penguin in New York and being named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year.

Five more novels have been published that follow the adventures of the above noted gentlemen’s club in late 19th century Maine. He has also written “Peter Loon”, an adventure based on a near-rebellion in Lincoln County in the early days of the American Republic, and published under his own imprint two volumes of an illustrated literary journal called “The American Zig-Zag”.

Van lives in Edgecomb with his wife, two kids, a dog, and a ghost at the end of the driveway. He is currently working on the seventh novel in the Moosepath Saga.
