The Lincoln Home Thanks Newcastle Fire Department

Every year the Lincoln Home partners with the Newcastle Fire Department to conduct a fire drill that includes a full evacuation of the entire building.  This drill is a learning opportunity for Lincoln Home staff and its residents, as well as the Fire Department, to fully understand what is involved in dealing with a fire in such a large building full of many people.

Saturday, September 17th  was a perfect weather day for this event.  When the alarm went off, all staff, firemen and women immediately went into action carefully and systematically evacuating the entire building.

Clayton Huntley, Newcastle Fire Chief, has worked with Lincoln Home in organizing and conducting  these drills for over 15 years . Every  year presents a new challenge to learn from, and always some fun occurs along the way. One year several of the resident were found trying on the fireman's boots and hats, another year a second story window ladder evacuation was practiced that included a cat, and this year Clayton sat back to let Deputy Chief Casey Stevens run the drill.

Each year presents important safety practice, good learning, comradery and fresh doughnuts for all. We cannot thank the Newcastle Fire Department, Clayton Huntley and his team enough for taking a Saturday morning every year to do this. We all depend on them and we thank them for all they do for us and so many.
