It really feels like Fall here at the Wiscasset Public Library Children’s Room.  We had fun reading I Am A Leaf by Jean Marzollo which described the journey of a leaf through all four seasons. The next story to tie into our fall leaf theme was Fall Leaves Fall by Zoe Hall where the children in the book notice the different colors the leaves turn, try to catch them as they fall from the trees, and them rake them into big piles to, of course, jump in them! The last book we read was I Know It’s Autumn by Eileen Spinelli that went over all of the sure signs that Fall is in the air. Everyone enjoyed discussing these activities such as apple picking, seeing pumpkins on doorsteps, and drinking warm cider.

Needing to stretch our legs after reading books, everyone headed outside to the library’s backyard to see how many different kinds of leaves have fallen. We collected a vast assortment and headed inside to the craft tables to do leaf rubbings with paper and sideways crayons. Lastly, we put our leaf pages together with orange yarn to make our Fall leaf booklets to take home.

Story Hour is every Thursday at 10:30am at the Wiscasset Public Library. All good listeners are welcome to join us at 21 High Street, Wiscasset for a few stories and an activity to follow.
