The eagle pictured here was one of the items donated to the Bands for Books event last year and its happy owner is delighted with it.  The artist, Bryan Buck, is donating to the event again this year – this time with a hand-crafted weather vane.  That is one of twelve items that will be raffled off.

So mark your calendar and plan to attend this year’s event to be held September 4 from 5-7 p.m. at Marianmade Farm in Wiscasset, the third consecutive year it has been held at the beautiful wedding destination site and lavender farm that borders the Sheepscot River.

Downeast Brass Quintet, with five of Maine's premier musicians and music educators, each with an impressive resume, will be playing at the event. The quintet’s music includes a wide range of styles from classical to Dixieland. Guests can request music of their choosing and dancing is encouraged.

The Little Village Bistro in Wiscasset is providing a cash bar and is donating heavy hors d’oeuvres. Small tables will be set up on the lawns outside the barn where guests can sit and enjoy the food and drink.

Other raffle items include a certificate for art restoration or custom framing, a scenic boat ride, a plane ride over mid-coast Maine, floral arrangements delivered to your door for several months, a large picnic basket filled to the brim with goodies and a case of wine.

Tickets to the event are $25 per person and can be purchased at the Wiscasset Library at 21 High Street in Wiscasset or from committee members – Wendy Ross, Judy Flanagan, Michelle Peele, Jenn Spaur, Linda Winterberg, Sally Gemmill and Kate Curran.  Tickets also will be available at the event itself – located at 155 federal Street in Wiscasset.  Free parking is available in a large field at the event site.

Sponsors of this year’s event are The First National Bank of Wiscasset, Leavitt and Parris of Portland, and Marianmade Farm, LLC of Wiscasset.

The event is organized by the group Friends of the Library, which has been active in recent years in working to improve the library’s physical appearance and its programming.  If you are interested in joining the group, which has many fun times
