Death Café Comes To Rockland Public Library

Mon, 07/28/2014 - 8:00am

To quote Woody Allen, "I'm not afraid of death, I just don't want to be there when it happens." Come eat cake, drink tea and talk about death on Wednesday, July 30, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Rockland Public Library's first Death Café.

A Death Café is a group-directed conversation about death and dying. There is no agenda, objectives or themes and is always offered in an accessible, respectful and confidential space. Since the Death Café model was developed in September 2011, more than 950 of these discussion groups have been held worldwide.

"We organized a small Death Café recently in Hope and were told to expect eight attendees. 24 showed up," said Peter Lindquist. "At that end of that meeting, many folks asked, 'when is the next one?' My dad always taught me to listen to the marketplace—this is the next one."

Lindquist is a Camden resident and artist, active in the community and interested in supporting aging issues and open discussion in a "nonexpert" setting. For more information about Death Café, contact Lindquist at 207-446-1751 or linklind@yahoo.com.
