World Day of Prayer Service The First United Methodist Church in Boothbay Harbor will host the World Day of Prayer service on March 5 at 1 p.m. The service is an ecumenical celebration of informal prayer led by women from area churches. Join in the prayer service written by the women of Cameroon for families in need. A time of fellowship will follow the service.

Scout Supper, Lecture at Southport Town Hall A Scout Supper will be held at the Southport Town Hall on March 6 at 5 p.m. by Pack 238 and Troop 222. Fish chowder and chili will be served. Three-time Mt. Everest explorer Ed Webster will give a presentation directly after the supper. His books will be available for purchase and autographs. Tickets will be $10 for adults, $8 for children for the supper and/or lecture and can be purchased directly from the Scouts or at the door. For more information, call 633-7161.
Wine Tasting in Wiscasset A free wine tasting event will be held at the Wiscasset Wine Outlet March 6 from noon to 7 p.m. Come taste some of the new wines (three red and three white) which arrived this week, just in time for spring. Snacks will be provided. The Wiscasset Wine Outlet is at 74 Flood Avenue, Wiscasset (882-4777).

Legion Buffet Breakfast American Legion Post #36 will hold another family buffet breakfast March 7 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Post hall on Industrial Park Road, Boothbay. The menu will include SOS (chipped beef in gravy on toast) French toast, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, Egg Beaters, home fries, toast, baked beans, orange juice, coffee, tea and milk. Admission to the all-you-can-eat meal is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 12. Children under ages six eat for free. For more information, call 633-6978.

Café Scientifique to feature talk by Dr. Michael Sieracki Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences will host a special winter Café Scientifique gathering at 6 p.m. on March 9 at the Opera House, 86 Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor. Dr. Michael Sieracki, a Senior Research Scientist at the laboratory, will lead a discussion about his recent experiences as Chief Scientist aboard the 118-foot French research schooner Tara. His talk is titled "Tara Oceans—the Beginning of a Trans-Global Ocean Biodiversity Expedition." The event is free and open to the public. A cash bar is available.

Author Gerry Boyle at Memorial Library The Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library will host a Literary Luncheon talk by Gerry Boyle, author of "Port City Shakedown," on March 12 at 11:45 a.m. Boyle’s newest book, "Damaged Goods," is due to be released in May. Concert at Skidompha On March 13 at 7 p.m., Beth Preston will host a concert at Skidompha Library featuring several of her voice students, including local resident Sarah Duggan. Sarah will be singing a total of three songs, including a Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy theme. Sean Flaming will be the accompanist. The concert is free and all are welcome to attend.

St. Columba’s St. Patrick’s Day Supper St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, 32 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor will hold a St. Patrick’s Day supper March 16 at 5:30 p.m. The menu will include a New England boiled dinner (corned beef, ham, potatoes, cabbage, carrots, onions and turnip), Irish soda, bread, coffee, tea and juice. Brownies and ice cream will be served for dessert. Donations will be greatly appreciated.

March Soup Supper at Southport Town Hall The Friends of the Southport Memorial Library are sponsoring a March Soup Supper to be held at the Southport Town Hall on March 17 at 5:30 p.m. Soup, salad and dessert will be the fare. Irish dancing provided by local children will entertain the attendees. The event promises to be very popular so reservations are requested. For reservations, please call the Southport Memorial Library at 633-2741 or Jean Hawley at 633-2774 or 633-4650. Dinner is $6 for adults. Children under 12 are free. The Friends will be increasing the supply of food at the local food pantry. Any donation of canned goods will be accepted and appreciated
Business After Hours at Rotary Club The Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor will be hosting the first Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours program of 2010 on March 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. The Rotary Club is located at 29 Oak Street (the driveway is directly across the street from Tindal & Callahan Real Estate). There is an alternate pedestrian entrance at 44 Townsend Avenue -- just look for the Rotary wheel. Caribbean Night with Pan Fried Steel at Opera House The first day of spring, March 20, marks the return of Pan Fried Steel -- this party loving band of 25 steel drum performers -- to the Opera House. Join us as we say good-bye to winter and welcome spring and the summer ahead! Dig out your Hawaiian shirt and flip flops and get ready to limbo! Woolwich Central School Eighth Grade Auction The eighth grade at Woolwich Central School is holding an auction March 20 to raise funds for its trip to Washington D.C. A silent auction and preview will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by a live auction from 6 to 8 p.m. The school is located on Naquasset Road in Woolwich.
