Gauge M. Barnes
Gauge Michael Barnes, 14, of Gardiner Road, Wiscasset died Thursday,
October 29 at his residence.
He was born in Augusta on November 18, 1994, the son of Shawn and
Lanee (Felscher) Barnes. He attended Wales and Wiscasset schools and
was a freshman at Wiscasset High School.
Gauge enjoyed playing basketball, dirt biking, playing Halo 3,
swimming at the Wiscasset docks, wrestling, snowboarding, playing
airsoft with brother Ridge, watching movies with mom, and hunting
and fishing with dad. On Saturday, October 24, which was youth day,
he shot an 8-point buck.
He is survived by his parents, Shawn and Lanee Barnes of Wiscasset;
his brother, Ridge William Barnes of Wiscasset; his paternal
grandfather, William "Bill" Barnes of Wiscasset; his paternal
grandmother, Gloria Barnes of Dresden; his maternal grandmother,
Larraine VanVeen and her husband Francis of Duncan, S.C.; and
numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of Gauge’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at
the Wiscasset Community Center on Gardiner Road (Route 27) in
Wiscasset. A procession of family and friends will follow to the
cemetery at the family farm in Wiscasset.

Grace E. Valentine
Grace Edith Valentine died
peacefully in her sleep at home early Saturday morning, October 31.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years and lifelong love,
Bill on December 28, 2008.
Grace was born on November 27, 1931 in Stamford, Conn. to the late
Tut and Anna Hendrick of Norwalk, Conn. She was a graduate of
Norwalk High School class of 1950. She grew up in the
Norwalk area and spent much of her time on and around the Norwalk
Islands.
She loved rowing, sailing, fishing and long distance swimming. She
was always cheerful and happy and enjoyed helping and serving
others. Her hobbies included quilt making and sewing and she always
looked forward to walking in the woods or going out in the boat with
her granddaughters and visiting as often as possible.
She and Bill owned and operated Hickory Bluff Store in Rowayton,
Conn. from the 1950s through the 1980s. Both of them spent countless
days from the day they were born until they bought, operated
and then retired from Hickory Bluff Store fishing, hunting, living,
working and just enjoying life there on the water.
During her time there, Grace was a volunteer EMT with the ambulance
service in Rowayton serving the community she grew up in. After they
retired and moved to Wiscasset, she spent many years serving the
community and the people she loved here. She always wore a smile and
was an inspiration to those she worked with and came in contact
with. The colorful and meaningful quilts she made and donated for
fund-raising for the fire department or ambulance will be remembered
by many as well as those she made for special occasions to the
people she loved.
Christmas and holiday baking was something else she loved and many
will miss.
She spent many years teaching boys and girls to swim through the
YMCA and with her own private lessons. She and Bill often enjoyed
taking someone fishing, shooting or just sightseeing. She looked
forward to the time at the farm with her son and his family and
enjoyed many cookouts and hikes there.
She is survived by one son, Tim Valentine and his wife Karen of
Somerville; two daughters, Diane Valentine of Shelter Island, N.Y.
and Lynn Valentine; eight grandchildren and three
great-grand-children.
In accordance with Grace’s wishes, there will be a private memorial
service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s

John W. Folk Sr.
John W. Folk, Sr. 67, of Boothbay Harbor, died Nov. 1, 2009 at his
home.
He was born in Boston, Mass., the son of the late George J. and
Theresa Sarah Moylan Folk.
John attended grammar school at Immaculate Conception in Malden
Mass. and senior high school at Malden Catholic until his father
passed away and he had to work to help support his mother and
family.
In 1964 John married Donna-Marie DeAngelis at St. Patrick Church in
Stoneham, Mass. They were married for 46 years renewing their vows
in 1999.
John was a Boy Scout in Medford, Mass. He received the Boy Scout Ad
Altare Dei Meda in the Cathedral in Boston Mass. from Arch Bishop
Richard J. Cushing. He was 3rd degree Knight from the
Knights of Columbus, Council #3023 in Derry, N.H.
He worked at the Hyler’s Restaurant in Boston as a cook and salad
maker, for Converse Rubber in Malden, Mass. as a rubber roller, and
for Rappoli in Woburn, Mass. as a cement block builder for 10 years.
He also worked as a part- time ambulance driver and attendant for
four years and helped deliver a baby. John worked for Alice’s
Restaurant in Salem, N.H., and Standard Stash and Door in Derry, N.H.
for over 10 years as a glass-cutter for making windows. He worked
for Arrow Cab in Manchester, N.H. and in 1990, John and a friend
started their own cab company and worked 24 hours a day out of the
Manchester Airport and Derry area. He became sole owner and operator
in 1996.
In 2001, John and Donna-Marie moved to Boothbay Harbor and John
decided that is where he wanted to spend his remaining years.
John was a committee member of the Boothbay Harbor Police Explorers
and of the New England Teamsters & Trucking Industry Local 35 in
Boston, Mass.
John and his wife loved to travel all over the states of New England
and loved their time together.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Donna-Marie DeAngelis Folk
of Boothbay Harbor; a son, John W. Folk, Jr. of Palm Coast, Fla.;
grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, Andrew and Alex of Palm Coast,
Fla.; brothers, George B. Folk of Malden, Mass., James F. Folk of
Quincy, Mass., and Robert J. Folk of Wilmington, Mass.; sisters,
Valarie Melanson of Tewks-bury, Mass. and Barbara Folk of Orlando,
Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 14
at Simmons Harrington & Hall Funeral Home.

John F. Main
John F. Main, 79, of Ellsworth died October 29 at a healthcare
facility in Portland.
He was born in Wiscasset on December 6, 1929 a son of Leslie and
Elizabeth (Day) Main.
John served his country in the Army during the Korean War and was a
Purple Heart recipient. John was a very kind and caring person, who
loved his family dearly and cherished his friends. John spent many
years as a mason. He enjoyed hunting deer and watching all wildlife
and he especially loved his little dog, Sam. John will be greatly
missed by all who knew him.
John was predeceased by his parents, wife Lucille, two brothers,
Dick and Harold, and a daughter Sharon.
He is survived by his four sons, John, Andy and Brian from Edgecomb,
and Adam from Jefferson; four stepchildren, Donny from Ellsworth,
Timmy from Otis, Betty from Milo and Luann from Litchfield; three
grandchildren and 20 step-grandchildren; his siblings, Frank of
Boothbay Harbor, Margaret from Winterport, Betty and Alice from
Boothbay; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Wednesday November 4 at Sunnyside
Cemetery Eastbrook Road, Eastbrook. Arrangements are under the care

Lewis J. Lozier
Lewis John Lozier, 91, of Boothbay passed away on Monday, November
2, 2009 at his home.
Lewis was born in Wallagrass, Maine on June 6, 1918, the son of
Arthur "Pete" and Amanda Lozier.
He graduated from Gardiner High School and attended Auburn School of
Commerce. He joined the United States Air Force during World War II
and served as an airplane electrical mechanic at several Air Force
bases until the war ended.
He worked in Washington, D.C., at the Census Bureau for several
years before returning to Maine to work for the Fish and Wildlife
Bureau at McKown Point in Boothbay Harbor and later worked for Maine
Marine Resources Department until retiring in 1984.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp in Eastern
Maine. His favorite pastime was reading history books.
He survived by his wife of 53 years, Marilyn Lozier of West Boothbay
Harbor, his daughter Diane Reed of Boothbay Harbor, two
grandchildren, Andrew Reed of Boothbay Harbor and Rachel Reed of
Boothbay Harbor, sisters Connie Lozier and Jackie French of
Brunswick, brothers Oreen Lozier of Charleston, New Hampshire, Ed
Lozier of Auburn, and Robert Lozier, along with several nieces and
nephews.
A committal service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday November 7, 2009
at Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay. A memorial service will be held
at a later date to be announced. Arrangements are entrusted to

Boothbay.
Robert L. Griffin
Robert L. Griffin, 66, of Fenwick Island, Delaware and Boothbay
Harbor, died on October 27th after a battle with
pancreatic cancer.
Mr. Griffin was born September 3, 1943 in Albemarle, North Carolina
the son of the late Boyce and Lucille Griffin. He attended school in
New London and graduated from the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill. Upon graduation he entered officer training school for
the Air Force and served in intelligence during Vietnam. While in
the Air Force, he had the distinct honor of being chosen to serve as
a White House social aide under President Nixon.
Following military service he enjoyed a successful 30 year career at
Prudential Insurance in various roles from sales to Vice President.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jennifer and their
two sons, Chad and David. He also leaves two sisters. Katherine
Griffin of Wilmington, North Carolina and Pamela Griffin-Smith of
Baltimore, Maryland and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in New London, North Carolina on
November 7. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Miles
Hospice in Damariscotta.
Stanley Whitney Olson
Known as "Ole" by many of his friends and acquaintances, Stanley
Whitney Olson, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather,
passed away at the age of 93 of natural causes on October 3, 2009 at
his home in Sebring, Florida with his daughter, Mary Ann Fry, at his
side.
He was born July 13, 1916 in Somerville, Massachusetts to Carl Olson
and Bertha Olson (nee Leavitt). As a child, he was raised by his
uncle and aunt, Leroy and Inez Olson, in Boothbay, after the early
deaths of his mother and father.
During his youth, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps,
building ski trails in New Hampshire, an experience that served him
well when he became a bridge engineer later in life.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Intelligence,
until his discharge in March of 1941.
While in the Marines, he met and married his beloved wife, Margaret
Stella (nee) Bednarick. They lived in Baltimore, Maryland and raised
three children, Mary Ann ("Lady Bug") (from Margaret’s previous
marriage), Katherine Patricia (deceased) and Richard Carl Leroy.
After their children left home, Margaret and he moved to Pocomoke
City, Maryland where he raised his granddaughter, Denise Williar,
following the untimely deaths of both of her parents.
His greatest pleasures were watching baseball and reading
non-fiction books, both of which were denied him as his eyesight
began to fail in the 1990s. He moved to Florida in 1997.
He is survived by daughter Mary Ann Fry of Sebring, Florida; son,
Richard, of Lutherville, Maryland; five grand-children and six
great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned, and the interment of his remains,
late this year or early next year, in the Baptist Cemetery in
Pocomoke City, Maryland.
Robert P. Wheeler, Jr .
Robert P. Wheeler, Jr., 78, died Saturday October 31 at St. Andrews
Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.
He was born September 8, 1931 in Lewiston, the son of Robert P.
Wheeler, Sr. and Alice LaFleur Wheeler. He grew up in Auburn
graduating from Edward Little High School, the class of 1949. He
continued his education graduating from the University of Maine at
Orono with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1953.
He signed for the draft and served his country in the US Army during
the Korean War.
He returned home to attend Massachusetts College of Pharmacy
graduating, class of 1959.
His first job as a pharmacist was at Hassen’s Drug Store in
Fairfield where he met Patricia Chase. He proposed to her at St
Joseph’s College in North Windham next to the statue of St Joseph.
They were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Fairfield in June
1962.
In 1964, six months after their twin daughters were born he accepted
a pharmacy position in Boothbay Harbor. He later purchased that
pharmacy naming it Wheeler’s Corner Drug Store where he served his
community until retirement in1999.
He was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Peace serving as a
Lector, Eucharistic Minister and founding member of the local
chapter of The Knights of Columbus. He was an avid swimmer and
mystery reader. He enjoyed watching and cheering for his children
and grandchildren at their sporting events, traveling with his wife,
family and friends and also hosting many holiday events in the
family home. .
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia C. Wheeler of
Boothbay Harbor, his daughters Patrice Carter and her husband John
of Edgecomb and Roberta Knapp and her friend Colin of Rockland, sons
Robert Wheeler, III and his wife Sandra of Boothbay and Christopher
Wheeler and his wife Michelle of Lisbon, grandchildren Christopher
Wheeler, Jr. of Henderson, Nevada, Erinn Chipman of Edgecomb, Samuel
Chipman of Edgecomb, Caroline Knapp of East Boothbay, Jaime Wheeler
of Boothbay, and Hayley Wheeler of Lisbon.
Friends were invited to gather with the family on November 3 at the
Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial
was celebrated on November 4 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic
Church in Boothbay Harbor. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery
in Boothbay.

Horatio E. White
Horatio Edward White, "Whitey," 94, of Fairways Drive, Brunswick,
died peacefully at home October 29 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 15, 1915, the son of Robert Paine White and
Effie Grace Travis White.
He had three passions in his life ... his wife of 67 years Doris
Agnes, hunting and playing golf.
He married Doris Agnes Lozier on May 29, 1942. They made their home
on Durham Road in Brunswick where they raised four children.
He worked at Hyde-Windlass and Bath Iron Works for 38 years as a
machinist and lead foreman. He also ran a successful lightning rod
business for many years.
He was a hunting enthusiast who won many sharp shooting
tournaments. An avid golfer, he was a life-long member at the
Brunswick Gold Club and was the manager of the Gangbusters League
there for many years. He played his last game of golf Monday,
October 26.
He is survived by a son, Gary White and his wife, Pamela, of
Boothbay Harbor; two daughters, Janice White and her husband William
Getchell of Durham, New Hampshire; Sheila White and her husband
Donald Sellers of Rye, New Hampshire; and daughter-in-law Takako
White of Aptos, California; five grandchildren; four great-children
and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife on October 9, 2009, his son, Lee in
2002, and six brothers and three sisters.
A memorial gathering was held at noon on November 1 at the Brunswick
Golf Club.
