Viola M. Langer
Viola Marie Langer, 59, of Dickinson Road in Wiscasset died Monday,
November 9 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.
She was born in Bath on August 22, 1950, a daughter of Charles Henry
and Madeline Priscilla (Grover) Guild.
She attended schools in Wiscasset and Bath. She was employed at
alocal greenhouse, restaurant and a blueberry factory in Rockland.
On December 13, 1987 she married William Langer.
She loved scratch tickets, collecting cookie jars, rides in cars and
animals.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Charles H. Guild Jr. in 2004
and Raymond E. Guild in 1968 and one sister, Shirley Guild-Clegg in
1990.
She is survived by her husband, William Langer of Wiscasset, two
sons, Robert C. Havener and Richard L. Havener, both of Brunswick,
one daughter, Patricia Ann Dollmatsch of Colchester, Vermont, one
brother, James A. Guild of Waterville, four sisters, Nancy E. Beal
and her husband Edward of Lexington, Missouri, Florence L. Sirois of
Lewiston, Sally A. Guild and her companion Richard of Wiscasset and
Sandra J. Dunning and her companion Roger of Dresden, and five
grandchildren.
A celebration of her life was held Saturday, November 14, 10 a.m.,
at the Huntoon Hill Grange Hall, Route 27, Wiscasset.

Maxine E. Harvey
Maxine E. Harvey, 72, of Sanford died Nov. 11 at Gosnell Hospice
House in Scarborough after suffering a long illness.
Maxine was born on Dec. 18, 1936 to the late Archie and Mildred
Thiboutot in Boothbay Harbor where she grew up and attended local
schools.
In the early 1980s, she moved to Ogunquit with her husband, John,
and daughter, Denise. Maxine worked at the Marginal Way House and
also baked lots of goodies for her special friends in local stores
in Ogunquit, especially "Bill" at the pharmacy.
Maxine enjoyed trips to Moosehead Lake and going to Ogunquit Beach
and walking her dog "Buffy." She couldn’t wait for the weekends to
go to yard sales.
Maxine was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, John D. Harvey; a
brother, William "Billy" Thiboutot; and a sister, Mitzi Peters.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise Murray and husband, John
Murray of Sanford; grandchildren, Jennifer Mollica, Ryan Murray,
Samantha Brook and Matthew Murray, all of Sanford; and
great-granddaughter, Addyson Allain of Sanford.
A private graveside service will be held for family and friends at a
later date in Boothbay Harbor.

Edna M. Rittershaus
Edna M. Rittershaus died at her beloved Barters Island home on
Friday, November 13th surrounded by her family.
Ninety-five years old on her recent birthday, she was the daughter
of the late Mary Baine and John D. Steele of Malden, Massachusetts.
She was married to the late William E. Rittershaus until his death
in 1974.
Born in her family home on Garden Street in Malden in 1914 Mrs.
Rittershaus resided there first with her parents and siblings, then
with her husband and six children until moving to Maine in 1977.
After graduating from Malden High School in the Class of 1932, Mrs.
Rittershaus received her BA in education from Lowell Teachers
College in 1936. Answering the call to support the war effort Mrs.
Rittershaus worked at GE in the early years of WWII. She attended
the University of Massachusetts Boston and Northeastern University
for graduate studies and was employed as a special education teacher
by the Malden Public Schools for twenty years.
A summer resident of Barters Island since 1960 and fulltime after
1977. Mrs. Rittershaus was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace
Catholic Church and of the St Andrews Hospital Auxiliary. She was an
avid Patriots fan, a committed collector of antiques, an inveterate
reader, an armchair birder, and enjoyed the opera on NPR every
Saturday afternoon. She remained passionate about education her
entire life, supporting both her alma mater and her husband’s, the
College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, as well as all her
grandchildren’s efforts from 4H to opera, from high school through
university. She was so proud of all her grandchildren’s
accomplishments.
Her greatest wish near the end of her life was to remain at home.
She was able to do this because of the excellent care provided by
the kind nurses and CNAs from Miles Home Health and Hospice, in
addition to the care provided by her children, especially Brian and
Katie who live next door.
Mrs. Rittershaus was predeceased by two sons, John Steele
Rittershaus and Jeffrey Charles Rittershaus; and a grandson, Billy
Rittershaus III.
She is survived by her children: daughter Gretchen of Falmouth, MA;
sons William and his wife Doris of Ten Mile, TN; Charles and his
wife Elaine of Malden, MA and Boothbay Harbor, ME; and Brian and his
wife Katie of Trevett, ME. Her grandchildren are: Eric and his wife
Sharla of Houston, TX; Ahren and his wife Katharine of Baltimore,
MD; Annaliese of Boston; Claire of Malden; Emily of Worcester, MA;
Ethan and Alison of Trevett, ME; and Ashley of Cummaquid, MA. Mrs.
Rittershaus has two great-grandchildren, Elliott and Katelyn of
Houston, TX. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Boothbay
Harbor, ME at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 19 with a collation in
the parish hall. The committal service will be on Saturday, November
21st at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, Massachusetts at
10 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Miles Home

Frances N. Spofford
Frances N. Spofford of Beverly, Mass., age 83, died on Saturday,
November 14. She was the wife of the late Robert N. Spofford.
Born in Beverly, daughter of the late Richard and Agnes (Dooley)
Herzog, she resided in Beverly for over 65 years.
Mrs. Spofford was a graduate of Beverly High School, class of 1944.
She worked as a bookkeeper for American Polymer of Peabody, and many
years as a waitress for both The Commodore and Romie’s Oyster House,
where she also served as Office Manager. Frances later moved to
Boothbay Harbor in 1984, where she worked as a bookkeeper at
Conley’s Garden Center until her retirement.
Surviving her are her children, Janet Chernick and her husband John
of Intervale, New Hampshire, Nancy Yorgy of Danvers, Richard Freeman
and his wife Donna of Wenham, Diane Rubchinuk of Danvers, and Cheryl
Demirdogen and her husband Sevan of Danvers; her daughter-in-law,
Roberta Freeman of Ipswich; her grandchildren, Jill Lachance and her
husband Kevin, Jay Chernick, Erin Rubchinuk, Carrie and Laura
Freeman, Camrin Yorgy, Garen, Hannah, and Christopher Demirdogen;
her great-grandchildren, Nathan and Jordan; her sister, Carol
Whitmarsh of Beverly, her sister-in law, Gladys Herzog; her many
special nieces and nephews; her step-children, Susan Neary of Palm
City, Florida, Robert Spofford of Bristol, Vermont, Thomas Spofford
of Eugene, Oregon, Elizabeth Spofford of Annisquam, Mass., Josh
Spofford of Essex, Mass., and Andrew Spofford of Annisquam, Mass.;
her eight step-grandchildren; her step-great-grand-child; her
special friends, Doris Kearney and Adrian Van Eck. She was also
sister of the late Robert and Richard "Bud" Herzog; wife of the late
Joseph Montecalvo; and former wife of the late John Freeman.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Campbell–Lee, Moody, Russell
Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly (North Beverly Location) on
Friday at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Burial in Central Cemetery, Beverly. Memorial Visitation will be
held on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions
